ABOUT
Lara Rebekah completed her studies at the Royal Northern College of Music where she held the Annie Ridyard Scholarship for Mezzo Sopranos. Lara is currently singing in the chorus at Glyndebourne Festival Opera.
Lara’s operatic roles include Cover Alcina La liberazione di Ruggiero dall’isola d’Alcina (Longborough Festival Opera), Madrigalist Manon Lescaut (Opera Holland Park), Olga Eugene Onegin (Opera Loki), Maurya Riders to the Sea (Wexford Festival Opera) and Dritte Dame Die Zauberflöte, Sprite Cendrillon, and Lolo The Merry Widow (all for RNCM Opera). Choruses include Semele (Opéra de Lille), La Rondine (If Opera), Carmen (Longborough Festival Opera), Un Ballo in Maschera, Manon Lescaut and Isabeau (all for Opera Holland Park), Candide (The Grange Festival), Vanessa and Herculanum (Wexford Festival Opera), Orfeo ed Euridice, L'Ivrogne Corrige, and Paradise Moscow (all for RNCM Opera). Roles in RNCM Opera Scenes include Stewardess Flight, Secretary The Consul, Lady Essex Gloriana, Serving Woman King Priam and Florence Pike Albert Herring.
As an oratorio soloist, performances include Bach’s Magnificat, St John Passion and Christmas Oratorio, Dvorak’s Stabat Mater, Handel’s Messiah, Haydn’s Maria Theresa Mass, Mozart’s Requiem and Solemn Vespers, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, Rutter’s Feel the Spirit, Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man, Manchester Carols by Sasha Johnson Manning and Beethoven’s Choral Fantasie with the Vienna Tonkünstler-Orchester.
Lara has appeared as soloist at the Royal Albert Hall with the Royal Marines Massed Bands. In 2021, she was a finalist in the Emmy Destinn Czech Singing Competition. She also reached the finals in both the Frederic Cox Award and The Joyce and Michael Kennedy Award for the Singing of Strauss.
Lara has taken part in numerous masterclasses with highlights including Jennifer Larmore, James Baillieu, Alice Coote, Sarah Connolly, Ann Murray, Mary King, Lynne Dawson and David Owen-Norris.
Lara also enjoys her outreach work. As well as teaching singing, Lara is a soloist for Lost Chord, a charity that brings professional musicians into care homes, giving interactive concerts to people suffering with dementia.
Lara has been generously supported by the Mario Lanza Educational Foundation, the Philip Bates Trust, The Kathleen Trust and the Shoresh Charitable Trust.
Lara will be performing in Glyndebourne's 2024 productions of Bizet's Carmen, Lehar's The Merry Widow and Mozart Die Zauberflöte.
